The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has been given the power to grant allowances to judges who resign after serving for only 15 years.
Under the previous Judiciary Act, the JSC had the power to grant a monetary allowance to judges who resigned voluntarily at the age of 55.
However, this time the amendment has given the commission the power to grant monetary allowances as well as other allowances to judges who leave after a short period of service.
It is unclear why the law was changed. The parliamentary committee report and the debate did not address the questions.
