President Mohamed Muizzu has conferred the Order of the Dignified Rule of the Muleege Dynasty upon Honourable Mohamed Solih.
According to the President's Office, it recognises his outstanding contributions to the expansion and advancement of the Maldives' trade and economy.
Solih received the honour at the official Republic Day ceremony held at the Maldives Centre for Social Education this morning.
Solih has played a pivotal role in developing diverse areas of the Maldivian economy, including the tourism industry.
He served as the first Managing Director of the Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) and also served as President of the Maldives National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI).
Solih served on various state boards and committees during the administration of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.
He also held the post of Honorary Consul for the Thai Honorary Consulate in the Maldives for 10 years. In recognition of this diplomatic service, he was awarded the "Medal of Civilian Honours" by the King of Thailand.
Muizzu also conferred the Highest Honour for Service to the Maldives Health Sector Medal on Moosa Anwar today.
Among his notable contributions is his active involvement in improving thalassaemia treatment services and raising public awareness of the disease. He also played a pivotal role in the establishment and early development of the National Thalassaemia Centre.
Additionally, Moosa Anwar provided technical expertise to the Drug Rehabilitation Centre and the Home for People with Special Needs.
He dedicated over 40 years to the Maldivian health sector, including more than 30 years in public service. He retired from government service on 23 July 2009.
Muizzu also conferred the President’s Award for Special Achievement to 34 recipients in recognition of their exceptional academic accomplishments.
The award is a national honour recognising exceptional achievements in knowledge, skills, and creativity attained through dedication and perseverance.
