Housing and Construction Minister Abdullah Muththalib has said the piling work of the Greater Male' Connectivity Bridge (Thilamale' Bridge) has been completed.
In a post on X, Muththalib said 263 piles have been installed in 68 areas under the project to connect Male', Villimale', Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi.
He said the piling work was one of the most challenging tasks under the project and noted that 60.84 percent of the entire project has now been completed.
Afcons Infrastructure Limited of India was contracted for the project, financed by a loan from India's Exim Bank.
The project was first planned to be completed by May 2024, but the timeline was altered and deadlines were pushed back.
The bridge is now scheduled to be completed between Male' and Villimale' by March 31, 2026. The bridge will be connected from Gulhifalhu to Thilafushi by September 30, 2026.
With the assistance of India, Afcons completed the bridge connecting the islands of Addu city and Hankede last year.
