The number of tourists arriving daily has begun to decline with the start of the low season.
The low season in tourism is from May to November. This is because of the monsoon, which causes more rainfall.
According to figures released by the Tourism Ministry on May 20, the daily average of tourist arrivals stood at 4,632 this month.
In the first four months of this year, the daily average of tourist arrivals was above 6,500. In February, the daily average was 7,646.
However, compared to last year, the total number of tourist arrivals is eight percent higher. The number of tourist arrivals in May 2025 is 12 percent higher than in May 2024.
China is the top source market, followed by Russia and the UK.
A total of 923,390 tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year. The government has set a target of 2.3 million tourists.
