The Transport Ministry has introduced a special license for people over the age of 50 and people with disabilities.
The new rules state that the ministry may issue a license for specialized vehicles driven by people with disabilities.
It also gives the ministry the power to grant exemptions from the rules and conditions applicable to other general licenses based on the disability.
The license for people over the age of 60 will be issued in a simpler manner than the current license for driving vehicles such as small three-wheeled vehicles.
It will be issued to those who complete a four-hour training programme and can be used for motorcycles, autocycles and small three-wheeled vehicles under 60 cc.
The license will be valid for 10 years. It can be renewed by completing the training programme.
Meanwhile, the rules were also amended to ban the import of motorcycles that are more than three years old and cars that are more than five years old.
The amendment gazetted on Sunday will come into force after 90 days.
According to the ministry, there are 105,239 motorcycles and 7578 cars in the Male' region.
