Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has said that resorts are content with the newly proposed bill to change rules on foreign currency exchange.
The main change in the proposed bill is giving tourist establishments two options to exchange dollars with the central bank instead of mandating the exchange of dollars per tourist.
The bill submitted to the Parliament on Monday allows resorts to choose between exchanging USD 500 for each tourist or 20 percent of the monthly dollar income.
Tourist safaris, guesthouses and hotels also have the option to exchange USD 25 for each tourist or 20 percent of the monthly dollar income.
When questioned about the tourism industry's opinion on the proposed changes, MMA said discussions were held with businesses submitting the bill.
MMA also said the majority of businesses in the tourism industry view this change "positively."
Maldives Association for Tourism Industries (MATI) had also requested to include a change related to the percent of income, MMA added.
