The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has refused to disclose whether investigations were ongoing into the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption scandal.
Adhadhu contacted the anti-corruption watchdog over the past two weeks to get information related to the MMPRC cases, but the commission has yet to respond to these attempts.
The ACC had earlier said it was investigating the MMPRC cases. However, the commission did not disclose the current status of the cases.
Meanwhile, the Parliament earlier released a list of 281 people accused of involvement in the MMPRC scandals - the biggest corruption case in the country's history.
Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb and former MMPRC Chief Abdulla Ziyath are the only people who were found guilty in the cases so far. Adeeb was sentenced to 20 years in jail. However, his sentence was commuted and the former government released him.
Former President Abdulla Yameen was twice convicted with a five-year sentence and an 11-year sentence passed by the Criminal Court. However, both the verdicts were quashed by the higher courts.
In July, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said he would punish all those involved in the MMPRC corruption and promised to "recover the money for the people."
"I want to recover the people's money for the people. The MMPRC case is the biggest of these matters. This government will identify those who were behind the corruption and punish them whoever they are," he said.
Despite the President's assurance to hold the perpetrators accountable, several people who are accused of being involved in the case hold positions in his government.
