Last week, the streets of Male' and Hulhumale' were awashed with posters reading Libey or Available. The public reacted with curiosity - some predicted the launching of a new movie while others claimed the posters were about the dollar shortage.
However, Ooredoo Maldives has now announced the posters were about the telecommunication company's 5G coverage for 60 percent of the country's population.
Ooredoo's Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) Hussain Niyaz told Adhadhu last week that the company's 5G network is now stronger and has better customer experiences.
Ooredoo 5G services have been expanded to:
- Alif Alif Thoddoo and Rasdhoo
- Alif Dhaal Maamigili, Mahibadhoo and Dhangethi
- Baa Eydhafushi
- Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo
- Gaaf Alif Villingili and Gaaf Dhaal Thinadhoo
- Haa Alif Dhidhdhoo and Ihavandhoo
- Haa Dhaal Kulhudhuffusho
- Kaafu Guraidhoo and Maafushi
- Lhaviyanu Hinnavaru and Naifaru
- Noonu Velidhoo
- Raa Dhuvaafaru and Ungoofaaru
- Seenu Hithadhoo
Ooredoo customers are able to experience the best of 5G by connecting data centres with submarine cables directly from Maldives to Singapore and Europe without going through India and Sri Lanka for the first time.
Maldives and Singapore were connected by submarine cable through Ooredoo's data center in Kulhudhuffushi. Ooredoo also has a data center in Hulhumale'.
Ooredoo started the first 5G tests in Maldives in 2019 and by the end of 2020, 5G was introduced in the Greater Male' Region.
