The revolutionary Raajje Transport Link (RTL) service introduced by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) government to connect the Maldives through a nationwide transport network began in 13 islands of Noonu atoll on Thursday, connecting 81 islands with the RTL service.
Local Government Minister Adam Shareef, Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen and Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim inaugurated the Noonu atoll ferry service at a ceremony in Noonu Manadhoo.
The RTL service for 13 islands in Noonu atoll began with two 50-seater ferries. Some 81 islands in nine atolls are now connected by RTL.
Local Government Minister Adam Shareef said at the ceremony that the government will try to improve the quality of the RTL service. The service was launched in Noonu atoll with two ferries travelling three routes. Noonu atoll is to be connected to other atolls in the future.
The RTL ferry service will be free of charge in Noonu atoll until August 1.
