Tourist arrivals have increased by 11 percent from last year with 64,538 tourists that visited in the first 15 days of May.
Official statistics showed that 837,189 tourists visited Maldives by May 15. This is an increase of 11.5 per cent compared to 2023.
The total number of tourist arrivals by May 15, 2023, was 751,101. However, the increase in tourist arrivals is declining each month this year.
At the start of May, tourist arrivals were 12.3 percent but dropped to 11.5 percent by May 15.
The annual growth in tourist arrivals fell to 2.6 percent last month after very high rates during the first three months of the year.
Looking at tourist arrivals from different countries so far this year, the number of Chinese tourists has increased, followed by Russia and the UK.
India which was the top source market for tourists to the Maldives last year saw a sharp decline in tourist arrivals, ranking sixth.
