The government has no clear response to questions over the policy on banning Israeli passports following a resolution passed by the Parliament last month.
During a press conference at the President's Office on Monday, a journalist questioned "what the government's stand is on Israeli citizens entering Maldives."
Rather than responding directly, President's Office Spokesperson Heena Waleed talked about the close relations between the Maldives and Palestine.
She said the government's stand has always been to ensure that the rights of the Palestinian people are not violated.
“And this government has been talking about it a lot. The recent speeches by our ministers at two international platforms are very strong proof of that,” Heena said.
She added that Maldives had always advocated for an independent Palestinian state.
When the journalist interrupted and repeated the question, Heena claimed that the government would take whatever stand needed for the sake of the Palestinian people.
Discussions were underway to decide on what measures to be taken, she said.
The Parliament passed a resolution calling for a ban on Israeli tourists and imports of Israeli products over the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
The resolution passed on April 1 called for a ban on Israeli citizens entering Maldives and a ban on importing all goods produced in and exported from Israel.
It also called for an immediate suspension of any relations between Israel and the Maldives.
