More than 600,000 tourists have visited the Maldives within the first three months of this year.

This is the first time that the 600,000 mark has been exceeded within the first three months of a year.

A record number of tourists visited the Maldives in 2023. Tourist arrivals were at 523,928 in the first three months of that year.

However, 605,004 tourists had visited Maldives by March 31 this year, according to the figures from the Ministry of Tourism. This is an increase of 15.3 percent over the same period in 2023.

According to the figures released yesterday, the highest number of tourists came from China. Russia is second on the list, followed by the UK.

India, which had the highest number of tourists visiting Maldives during and immediately after the Covid pandemic, was sixth on the list.

The number of Indian tourists fell after a campaign in January to boycott the Maldives over posts by government deputy ministers insulting the Indian Prime Minister.

The country’s tourism industry has recovered since the Covid outbreak with 1.8 million tourists visiting last year.
