A complaint has been filed to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) against Health Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel for allegedly keeping money from the Kuwait Fund in his personal bank account.
Adhadhu can confirm that the matter was reported by a private individual.
The petitioner said the people of Faafu Nilandhoo have suffered a great loss after money provided by Kuwait Fund to Khaleel's NGO to construct a school building on the island was diverted to his account.
Adhadhu earlier reported about the two-storey building announced by Abdulla Khaleel (AK) Foundation at the Atoll Education Center on his native island six years ago. The building was to include four classrooms, a computer lab, training room and a laboratory.
Information gathered by Adhadhu shows that USD 89,000 out of the USD 200,000 issued by the Kuwait Fund was deposited in Khaleel's account. However, the former MP for Nilandhoo denies any wrongdoing.
He was questioned over the matter in Parliament yesterday, but he declined to discuss any details. The current Health Minister said the Parliament must conduct an inquiry to find the truth.
"If money from the Kuwait Fund has gone into my account, I request the honorable MP to submit the matter to the relevant Parliament committee and make a proper inquiry so that the facts will be clear," Khaleel said.
More than six years after Khaleel's association began the project, the only visible work on the building is a steel structure that has been left to rust.
