The government today denied claims that many Indian teachers left the country due to the 'India Out' movement launched by the current ruling coalition Progressive Party of Maldives-People's National Congress (PPM-PNC) when they were the opposition.
In response to a question in Parliament today, Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu said there is no "crisis" due to a shortage of teachers in schools.
He said challenges are faced for a few weeks when a teacher leaves and that foreign teachers who come to Maldives sometimes leave very soon.
The minister was responding when Funadhoo MP Mohamed Shahid that "many teachers have left the Maldives as a result of the India Out policy."
"If you look at the information from the past 30 years, you can see that foreign teachers come, they come to a small island and may want to leave after just one month. So there is no teacher crisis of that sort in schools in Maldives. That is not accurate information," Shafeeu said.
