The chairman of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), which operates the country’s main airport, Velana International Airport, has submitted his resignation.
A source confirmed to Adhadhu that Mohamed Umar Manik (MU Manik) had submitted his resignation letter two days ago.
The President's Office and the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) could not be reached for comment.
The source told Adhadhu that MU Manik decided to resign after 10 years because the management was trying to act against rules and trying to recruit some employees who were previously sacked.
"[MU Manik] does not want things to go against the rules. He does not want the country to face distress. That is why he submitted his resignation," the source added.
MACL could not be reached for comment.
MU Manik was appointed Chairman of MACL in 2013. The position of MACL Chairman remained unchanged in all subsequent administrations. There have been no major changes to the MACL board as well.
A pioneer in the Maldives tourism industry, MU Manik is also the Chairman of Universal Enterprises and the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI).
