Mohamed Shaheeb has been dismissed as spokesman at the President's Office and appointed as a State Minister at the Foreign Ministry.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's decision to remove Shaheeb as spokesman and transfer him to the Foreign Ministry was confirmed to Adhadhu by a senior government official.
Shaheeb is now listed as a State Minister at the Foreign Ministry in the page on the President's Office website about senior government officials.
The reason for dismissing Shaheeb 18 days after his appointment on December 13 is unclear. But the appointment of Shaheeb, who was formerly the President of the Broadcasting Commission, had drawn criticism from journalists. Some journalists also criticized his conduct during press conferences.
Shaheeb also faced criticism at the time over fines imposed on newspapers and TV stations during former President Abdulla Yameen's government.
Shaheeb resigned as a member of the commission five years ago in 2019 after parliament decided to remove him from the post.
