Maldives has welcomed the first tourist of the year as the government targets to achieve two million tourist arrivals in 2024.
The first tourist of 2024 was Benjamin Duncan Moore from the UK who arrived this morning.
He was welcomed at the Velana International Airport (VIA) by Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal and other government officials.
According to the arrivals report released by the tourism ministry, more than 1,800,000 tourists visited last year. This is a record for tourism in Maldives.
The government estimates that about 15 new resorts will open in next year and 1,000 beds are expected to be added to the market.
The government aims to attract two million tourists next year by working with the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) to reach out to more markets.
