Met predicts more rain with onset of north-east monsoon

The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has said that the ongoing rains are expected during the early part of the current north-east monsoon.

The north-east monsoon or Iruvai season began on December 10th.

The Met Office said the heaviest rains are being experienced in central Maldives. Rather than heavy rain, the Met Office predicts stronger winds and seas.

According to the weather forecast website AccuWeather, continuous rain is expected throughout the week.

The Met Office predicts heavy rains and thundershowers are expected in some parts of the country over the next 24 hours.

Winds will be between 10 and 20 mph in the northeast and east, with gusts up to 35 mph. Seas will be rough with wave heights between three and six feet.
