Tree Top Hospital has introduced Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injection, a non-surgical treatment for major injuries to various parts of the body.
The hospital's Director of Medical Services Dr. Mladen Knotek launched the service. Knotek said the top priority is to provide the best treatment.
The treatment is not yet available under the Aasandha insurance.
Knotek noted that the hospital introduced the PRP service after conducting the necessary studies. He said they hope to expand PRP treatment and introduce new services.
PRP is a procedure in which blood is drawn from the patient and the healing cells or platelets are separated and injected into the injured area.
Tree Top Hospital's orthopedic specialist, Dr. Kanniraj Marimuthu briefed reporters on the conditions under which PRP treatment can be given and the treatment process.

The treatment is not yet available under the Aasandha insurance.
Conditions in which PRP services can be provided
- Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis)
- Osteoarthritis of the knee
- Various injuries in sports such as hamstring
- Ankle and foot injuries
- For prompt treatment of fracture
Around 7-10 ml of blood will be drawn for the treatment. After the blood is drawn, the machine will take seven minutes to separate the substances. The injection takes about 25 minutes to complete.
Swelling and pain at the injection site after PRP treatment is a side effect that some people experience. However, the treatment is less likely to cause infection and safer, Dr. Marimuthu said.
"Swelling of the injection site for a few days is a complication. But this treatment is very safe and has little chance of infection," he said.
Dr. Marimuthu noted that the treatment is useful for the elderly, people with knee problems and athletes and players in various sports.
If the patient does not experience relief after PRP treatment, doctors will not recommend further proceedings but will recommend additional treatments and services to relieve the injury.
