The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has started work on the last two segments of the Ameenee Magu redevelopment as an asphalt road.
The project was launched by the previous government, which completed the road construction up to the Housing Ministry when its term ended. Of the 13 segments, construction did not begin on segments 12 and 13.
Work on the section of the road from the Housing Ministry to its western end started at 6 am on Saturday.
Resuming work was part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s plan for his first 100 days in office, RDC Managing Director Ali Zuhair said in a post on X.
The water drainage system is expected to improve on when work is completed on Ameenee Magu, which frequently floods during heavy rainfall. Pump stations previously set up on the road have also been upgraded.
The section on the western end of Ameenee Magu has been closed for the construction work.
After work began on Saturday, major changes were made to the routes of buses operated in Male’ by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
Changes to bus routes
- The Ameenee route bus (R11) will turn to Hadhuvaree Hingun from Ameenee Magu and turn to Majeedhee Magu
- The Orchid route bus (R10) will end at the West Park stop and turn back to Majeedhee Magu
- The starting and ending point of buses traveling between Male’ and Hulhumale’ will be the Maafannu bus station.
RDC began the Ameenee Magu redevelopment project on August 30 last year. It was contracted to be completed within 210 days. The initial completion date passed on May 28, 2023.
