Dr. Fazeel Najeeb, former governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), has announced his intention to contest in next year's parliamentary elections.
Announcing his intention to seek the Progressive Party of Maldives-People's National Congress (PPM-PNC) candidacy for the Fuvahmulah Dhekunu constituency, Fazeel said he decided to run in order to work with President-Elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to deliver his campaign pledges.
Fazeel said he decided to seek the seat with the intention of serving the Maldivian people and especially the people of his native Fuvahmulah.
Fazeel appealed for the support of Fuvahmulah Dhekunu constituents to win the election.
The Fuvahmulah-born Fazeel served as the central bank's governor from October 2008 to December 2013. He also served as Maldives governor of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and is currently the chairman of SAARC Finance, a network of South Asian central banks. He began his public service in 1987 at the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Fazeel earned a PhD in commercial law after an LLM in international business law and a BA honors degree in economics. He pursued higher education in the UK.
