The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has enabled customers to use Visa and Mastercard to pay for Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry tickets.
The service was introduced by MTCC CEO Adam Azim at a special ceremony at the Maafannu Vilimale' ferry terminal on Monday morning.
The service was previously only available on RTL buses but customers who travel on ferries were also in need of it, Azim said.
Visa and Mastercard can be used to pay for RTL ferries in Vilimale', Thilafushi, Gulhifalhu, Hulhumale', Addu City, Kulhudhuffushi City, Fuvahmulah City, Haa Alif Dhidhdhoo, Laamu Gan, Laamu Fonadhoo, and Laamu Isdhoo/Kalaidhoo, Azim noted.
"If you have Visa or Mastercard, you can travel to the Vilimale' area, to Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi as well. And you can travel in Addu City, Fuvahmulah City and Laamu Gan by tapping the card," Azim said.

In addition to Visa and Mastercard, ferry tickets can also be purchased through the RTL app, according to MTCC. New features added to the app now make it easier for customers to change the ferry ticket date and seek refunds, the company said.
A feature that enables the use of tickets by scanning a QR code has also been added to the RTL app, MTCC said. The feature will be available for all customers after updating the app, it added.
The RTL ferry service is currently available in the northernmost atolls of Haa Alif, Haa Dhaal and Shaviyani as well as in Lhaviyani atoll and the southernmost atolls of Gaaf Alif, Gaaf Dhaal, Fuvahmulah and Addu.
