Tourist arrivals to the Maldives so far this year have surpassed 1.3 million.
According to statistics released by Immigration, 1,361,048 tourists visited the Maldives by the end of September. Nearly 200,000 tourist arrivals were recorded last month.
The top source market for tourists to the Maldives this year is China, which was the top market before the Covid-19 pandemic. Neighboring India was second and Russia was third on the list of top markets.
More than 5,000 tourists on average per day have been visiting the Maldives this year, according to statistics from the Tourism Ministry.
The government is aiming to welcome a record-breaking 1.9 million tourists in 2023. But with three months left of the year, the government's target is unlikely to be reached without an increase of 100 or 200 tourists from the daily average.
