The Maldives Meteorological Service has predicted that the current rainy weather will start to improve after Friday.
Heavy rains and strong winds have affected several islands with the monsoon and the Met Office has been issuing alerts for the northern and central atolls.
An official from the Met Office told Adhadhu that bad weather is likely to prevail all across the country for the rest of the week.
Rain has caused flooding and extensive damage in some islands.
Several homes in Alif Alif Rasdhoo were inundated on Monday and the island council told Adhadhu that the downpour continued for several hours.
According to the Met Office official, the weather is expected to improve for northern atolls on Friday and the central and southern atolls on Sunday.
