Second resort developed with airport in Maldives opens

The "Ifuru Island Maldives" resort developed with the Raa Ifuru airport has opened for business.

The premier all-inclusive resort with 147 villas officially opened on Tuesday last week. It is the second resort developed with an airport in the Maldives.

Ifuru Island Maldives features four bars and six restaurants specializing in cuisine from across the world as well as several other facilities, including sports arenas and a 24-hour fitness center.

According to the resort, the country's first permanent skydiving drop zone has also been set up in collaboration with world champion skydiver Will Penny. The resort is planning a major skydiving event.

Ifuru airport is operated by Island Aviation. It was developed during former President Abdulla Yameen's government.

Ifuru airport was developed by the Coastline subsidiary Ifuru Investments. The resort's lease rights were previously held by The Small Maldives Island Co, a company jointly formed in 2012 by the Coastline Group of Companies and Australia's Hospitality Strategies.

The company tried to sell the Ifuru airport and resort for USD 65 million in 2020. However, it is unclear if the sale was completed.
