Tourist arrivals so far this year have reached 1.2 million.
The latest statistics made public by the Tourism Ministry show that 1,254,252 tourists visited the Maldives by last Wednesday, up 14 percent from the same period last year. Some 1.1 million arrivals were recorded by September 2022.
Russia remains the top source market for tourists with 147,187 visitors this year. India is in second place with 138,104 tourists followed by China in third with 124,549 tourists.
According to the statistics, 5,037 tourists have visited the Maldives on average every day this year. The average duration of stay was longer than seven days.
Tourist arrivals have now reached 65 percent of the government's target of 1.9 million visitors for 2023.
