Fenaka has been awarded the contract to set up a 25-tonne ice plant in Laamu Maavah.
In addition to building the 25-tonne ice plant, Fenaka is also tasked with establishing a 50-tonne cold storage under this project.
Fisheries Minister Dr. Hussein Rasheed Hassan and Fenaka Managing Director Ahmed Saeed Mohamed signed the project agreement on Tuesday.
Fenaka was earlier contracted to set up a 25-tonne ice plant and 50-tonne cold storage in Laamu Maabaidhoo. The contract was awarded in February.
Laamu atoll has a thriving fisheries sector and the only source of ice for the fishermen is the ice plant operated by Horizon Fisheries in Maandhoo.
Fishermen in the atoll regularly complain about the difficulties in getting ice during the peak season.
