Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been contracted to reclaim land in Laamu Kadhdhoo for the airport development project.
The work includes land reclamation and shore protection and was awarded to MTCC for MVR 389.7 million.
According to the Economic Ministry, 56.83 hectares of land will be reclaimed and 4.4 km of rock revetment will be installed under the project.
MTCC has been given 300 days to reclaim the land and 600 days for shore protection work.
Following the land reclamation, the government plans to expand the runway in Kadhdhoo airport to 2.4 km and establish an international passenger terminal and other facilities.
The development of Kadhdhoo Airport to international standards is a pledge made by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
