The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to remove the Haa Dhaal judicial district's senior magistrate Ali Adam from the bench for calling two women who went to court for a divorce.
The JSC said in a statement last night that the decision was made because Ali Adam admitted to calling and sending several inappropriate messages to a woman who went to the Kulhudhuffushi magistrate court for a divorce.
Ali Adam interacted with her outside of court, proposed friendship and instructed her to delete his messages. He asked the woman for private information about conjugal relations and sent several inappropriate messages, the JSC said.
He acted in bad faith and tried to take advantage of her fragile situation, the commission said.
The JSC decided at a meeting held on Sunday to recommend his dismissal to parliament.
Ali Adam was suspended on May 23. The JSC said yesterday that a similar complaint was filed while he was under suspension.
The JSC revealed that he has been suspended again after his first 60-day suspension ended on Sunday.
The commission also previously investigated complaints about Ali Adam, including cases related to an order sought over domestic violence, a marriage renewal and the formation of an association. Ali Adam was suspended for two weeks in April last year over the two latter complaints.
