Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has brought the Filippo Brunelleschi dredger for use in dredging projects across the country.
MTCC CEO Adam Azim told Adhadhu that the dredger from Belgium arrived in the Maldives Monday night and will be put to use starting Tuesday.
"The dredging work will start today. It's first project is the land reclamation of Haa Alif Ihavandhoo," he stated.
The dredger is 27.5 meters wide and 142.5 meters long and has a hopper capacity of 11,300 cubic meters.
MTCC has chartered such a vessel for six months to expedite the dredging projects, Azim highlighted.
"We have brought this dredger to accelerate the dredging projects. Reclamation projects in nine islands can be completed before October," he said.
The new dredger will be used in Haa Alif Ihavandhoo, Shaviyani Komandoo, Raa Ungoofaaru, Kaafu Dhiffushi, Kaafu Gulhi, Alif Alif Ukulhas, Alif Alif, Bodufolhudhoo, Meemu Dhiggaru and Faafu Feeali.
