The 43rd annual technical conference of the Commonwealth Association of Tax Administration (CATA) is ongoing in the Maldives this year.
The event takes place in a different member country each year with the participation of tax administrators from Commonwealth countries. This is the first time the conference is held in the Maldives.
Organized by the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), the conference is taking place at the Paradise Island Resort from July 10 to 13.
The theme of this year's conference is "The Role of Data in Tax Compliance Management and Taxation of Hospitality Industry."
According to MIRA, the theme was selected to foster interesting discussions among participants and for member countries to share their experiences on establishing a strong compliance risk management framework and the challenges faced in collecting taxes from the hospitality sector.
Representatives from 29 countries along with tax experts from an international organization are participating in the conference.
