The Maldives and Sri Lanka have signed three agreements during the fourth session of the Maldives – Sri Lanka Joint Commission held Wednesday at the foreign ministry of Sri Lanka.
The agreements aim to foster greater bilateral relations and cooperation between the Maldives and Sri Lanka in the field of cultural and health cooperation and people-to-people relations.
The first agreement signed was on the establishment of the Maldives cultural centre in Sri Lanka.
High Commissioner of Maldives to Sri Lanka Ali Faiz and Secretary to the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs of Sri Lanka Somarathne Vidanapathirana signed the agreement.
The agreement on health cooperation was signed by Maldives’ deputy health minister Shamau Shareef and Additional Secretary (Medical Services) to the Ministry of Health of Sri Lanka Dr. A.K. Sunil Bernard De Alwis.
Maldives’ state minister for Arts Mohamed Thoriq signed the agreement on cultural cooperation. It was signed by Somarathne Vidanapathirana, Secretary to the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs of Sri Lanka.
Foreign minister Abdulla Shahid and his counterpart Ali Sabry witnessed the signing of three agreements.
