More than 1000 employers, including some state agencies, do not pay contributions for their employees’ pension to the pension office as required by law.
A list of non-compliers was published on May 25 with 1052 employers and the pension office has filed court cases to take legal action against 162 employers. A final notice was issued to 227 employers.
The two state institutions on the list are the National Drug Agency (NDA) and Ungoofaru regional hospital. The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) is also on the list.
According to the information made public by the pension office, 323 employers owe below MVR 50,000 in unpaid contributions; 24 employers owe between MVR 50,000 and MVR 100,000; 43 employers owe between MVR 100,000 and MVR 500,000; seven employers owe between MVR 500,000 and MVR 1 million; and five employers owe unpaid contributions above MVR 1 million.
The list of non-compliers includes some prominent companies in the country. The top 50 employers with the largest pending contributions were named in the list.
