The US government has committed USD 7.2 million to strengthen the technical capacity of the Maldives in managing public finances and bolster the resilience of economic and democratic governance.
The financial commitment was guaranteed on Monday when the tenth amendment to the Development Objective Grant Agreement (DOAG) was signed between the Maldives and the US.
The signing ceremony took place at Foreign Ministry, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing partnership between the Maldives and the US, the ministry said in a press release.
Ahmed Khaleel, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs signed on behalf of the Maldives and USAID Mission Director Gabriel Grau signed for the US government.
The DOAG is a landmark development cooperation agreement signed between the Maldives and the United States on 12 March 2019.
Over the years, there has been gradual increases in the funding allocated. Through the tenth amendment, the United States has committed an additional USD 7.2 million.
The funds will be utilized to strengthen the technical capacity of the Maldives in managing public finances and bolster the resilience of the country's economic and democratic governance, the ministry stated.
With the signing of the tenth amendment, the total value of funding increased to USD 36.1 million.
