The Maldives government has strongly condemned Israel’s continued attacks on the Al Aqsa mosque and the occupation of the Palestinian people.
Ahmed Khaleel, the permanent representative for the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), on Thursday, spoke at an open-ended meeting of the OIC’s executive committee in Jeddah.

“He condemned Israel for committing actions that violate resolutions passed by the UN security council and general assembly,” the foreign ministry said in a press release.
Khaleel further condemned Israel’s atrocities against the Palestinian people in the occupied West Bank, East Jerusalem and the blockaded Gaza.
He stated that the Maldives government and Maldivian people will always stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
He called for an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands and urged Israel to pull back to its 1967 borders.
Khaleel, who is also the Maldives' ambassador to Saudi Arabia, stated that an independent, sovereign Palestinian state must be established with East Jerusalem as its capital city.

Confrontations at Al Aqsa, the third-holiest shrine in Islam and the most sacred site in Judaism – in which it is referred to as the Temple Mount – have sparked deadly cross-border wars between Israel and Gaza’s Hamas rulers in the past while tensions are always high between Israelis and Palestinians in the occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank.
