Health Minister Abdulla Nazim has urged parents to complete the vaccination of their children according to the schedule to protect them from dangerous diseases.

He made the remarks in an address delivered on Monday to mark World Health Day. This year's theme is "Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures."

"I would like to remind parents to pay special attention to the completion of vaccinations against dangerous diseases in childhood," Nazim stated.

This year’s theme focuses on increasing efforts to prevent maternal and newborn mortality while urging governments and the medical community to prioritize women’s long-term health and well-being.

"The Maternal Health Module, designed for pregnancy services, is currently being reviewed. The aim is to make records and information on maternal and infant care and services accessible to the general public through the Maldives Integrated Health Information System," he said.

A vaccination schedule has been developed in the Maldives from birth to the age of 10. These vaccines protect children from dangerous diseases.

Vaccines are given to protect against TB, hepatitis B, polio, pertussis, whooping cough, liver cancer, diphtheria, meningitis, pneumonia, rubella and cervical cancer in girls.
