A man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his brother in Raa Maduvvari island last night.
Police received a report of the incident at 11:28 pm. They said a 35-year-old man had been arrested.
Adhadhu understands that the man was freed while serving a 10-year prison sentence over a previous stabbing.
Maduvvari residents told Adhadhu that the Ismail Asif attacked his brother Mohamed Mueen with a knife during an argument.
Mueen sustained two stab wounds to the head. He was treated at Maduvvari Health Center and Ungoofaaru Hospital.
Asif was sentenced to 10-years in prison in September 2022 over the stabbing of Ismail Hammad on a fishing vessel in 2019.
He attacked Hammad and threw him off the vessel. Hammad told authorities that Asif attacked him after an argument on religious matters.
Asif was charged with assault with a sharp object or weapon causing serious injury to a person.
Although he pleaded not guilty, the state presented numerous evidence to prove his guilt, including investigating officers and secret witnesses.
It is unclear how or when Asif was freed from prison. But some people from Maduvvari said he was released due to "mental health issues."
