A man has been arrested for allegedly throwing used engine oil at Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) activist Mariyam Zubair (Mandhy) on March 17.

According to the Criminal Court's arrest warrant, the suspect is 20-year-old Ahmed Rishmah. Police believe he was driving the motorbike during the attack.

He was produced before the Criminal Court on Friday and remanded in custody for 15 days. He was arrested on March 27 under a court order.

Ahmed Rishmah does not deny driving the motorbike and has also provided information about the man who accompanied him.

Mandhy said the men wearing helmets doused her with used engine oil at around 1:07 am while she was returning home after attending the MDP's nightly protest.

Meanwhile, the police have launched a criminal investigation against her for speaking about a member of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's family during a rally.
