Ahmed Nareesh, who resigned as Deputy Mayor of Male' on Wednesday, has been appointed to the Youth Ministry at the ministerial level.

A senior government official told Adhadhu that Nareesh was appointed as an advisor to the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts. He was appointed on Thursday. The salary of a minister is MVR 58,500.

In his resignation letter, Nareesh thanked the people who voted for him and the party leadership. He did not disclose a reason for his resignation.

Meanwhile, Maafannu West North councillor Mohamed Areesh has been elected the new Deputy Mayor of Male'.
