Maafannu West North councillor Mohamed Areesh has been elected the new deputy mayor of Male'.

Areesh was the only candidate who expressed interest in the position.

A secret ballot was taken among the city councillors and Areesh won by a unanimous vote of 16 councillors.

He thanked the councillors for choosing him and assured that no one would be left behind.

Former deputy mayor Ahmed Nareesh resigned last week. The Maafannu Central councillor did not say why he resigned.
