Maldives has dropped three places in the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) compiled by Transparency International.
According to the index published today, Maldives scored 38 points in 2024 which is one point lower than 2023.
The country scored 43 points in 2020, 40 points in 2021 and 2022 and 39 points in 2023.
Maldives was ranked 96th out of 180 countries in the world this year while India was also ranked 96th. With 40 points, Maldives is among the two-thirds of the countries that scored less than 50 points.
In 2023, Maldives was ranked 93rd while the ranking was 75th in 2020.
The CPI ranks 180 countries and territories around the globe by their perceived levels of public sector corruption, scoring on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).
"The 2024 CPI shows that corruption is a dangerous problem in every part of the world, but change for the better is happening in many countries," Transparency International said.
Denmark was the top ranked country in CPI 2024.
