Supreme Court Justice Dr. Azmiralda Zahir has requested the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to initiate a criminal investigation against the commission's chief, Adam Shamil, after alleging corruption in a letter sent to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

A letter signed by Shamil was sent to the JSC regarding a criminal investigation against three Supreme Court justices. The JSC suspended Azmiralda and Justices Mahaz Ali Zahir and Husnu Suood upon receiving the letter shortly before a constitutional case was due to start in the apex court.

In the case filed at the ACC, Azmiralda noted that there were many issues with the letter and that the anti-corruption watchdog has violated procedures and rules.

She noted that the letter signed by Shamil does not have a number, and the ACC had not decided to conduct a criminal investigation, although the letter claimed it.

She added that the case was in the pre-investigation stage when the judges were suspended and that it proves that Shamil provided false information to the JSC.

She further accused the motive of the letter as an attempt to stop the constitutional case on MP disqualification and influence the judges.

The case stated that Shamil's actions were an abuse of his official position and were aimed at benefiting a person.
