India has donated USD 4 million (MVR 62 million) worth of equipment to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) upon a request from the Maldives government.

In a statement, the Indian government said it had donated defense equipment to Maldives at the request of the Maldivian government. Indian media reported that the assistance includes vehicles and navigation equipment.

The donation was announced during Defense Minister Ghassan Maumoon's first official visit to India. On Wednesday, he met Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and held bilateral talks.

Ghassan was a leader of the India Out campaign carried out by the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) and Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) when they were in the opposition.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu won the 2023 presidential election through anti-India rhetoric but his government has now distanced itself from the campaign and blamed former President Abdulla Yameen for the sentiments.
