President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has sacked two employees who served in the President’s Office for 17 years.

Adhadhu understands that they were for refusing to resign after a President's Office Minister offered them jobs in a government company.

The Minister said they need to resign as a cost-cutting measure. But they were fired on Saturday following the refusal to accept his proposal.

According to the letter of dismissal, the decision was made under the powers granted to the President under Article 115 of the Constitution.

In a Facebook post, former First Lady Fazna Ahmed expressed shock over "the abrupt dismissal of two long-serving female staff members."

"Reports indicate that they had been working diligently and faithfully for over 17 years, serving under every administration since President Gayoom," she wrote.

Fazna wrote that dismissing employees without a reasonable explanation undermines trust and sets a concerning precedent.

"While Article 115 of the Constitution may grant the President the authority to hire and dismiss staff, it is essential to question whether such decisions align with the principles of fairness, transparency, and accountability that our nation strives to uphold."

One of the dismissed employees shared Fazna's post and said government offices must be more responsible in such matters.
