President speaks about climate change risks to Maldives at China's National Day reception

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has spoken about the the potential damage that can be caused by climate change to the Maldives at the reception to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China.

After praising China for its progress and development, the President first spoke of the priority given by both Maldives and China to sustainable development and then moved on to the topic of climate change.

Speaking at the Dharubaaruge convention centre on Monday, Muizzu said China's support for Global Climate Action is a policy that has a profound impact on the Maldives.

"We look forward to working closely with China on the biggest challenges of our time, such as climate change and sustainable development," he said.

Explaining the sensitivity of the Maldives' situation due to climate change, Muizzu said countries like the Maldives, which are facing the risk of disappearing, are evidence of the need to act urgently.
