Fenaka spent MVR 200,000 on ceremony to inaugurate smart meter

Fenaka Corporation has spent MVR 200,000 for the inauguration ceremony of the smart meter installation project in Dhaal Kudahuvadhoo island.

Fenaka Managing Director Muaz Mohamed Rasheed and Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim attended the ceremony held on August 27.

Adhadhu submitted a Right to Information (RTI) request on August 28 to obtain the details of expenses for the ceremony.

The state utility company provided the details today after Adhadhu lodged a complaint at the Information Commissioner's office for failure to comply with the Right to Information Act.

According to the details, a total of MVR 201,776 was spent on the ceremony.

Details of expenditure

  • Accommodation cost: MVR 11,500
  • Airfare: MVR 42,768
  • Catering expenses: MVR 22,680
  • Event costs: MVR 118,228
  • Food allowance: MVR 6,600

A smart meter application was also launched at the ceremony to mark the completion of the installation of smart meters in Kudahuvadhoo island.

Meanwhile, the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) has ordered state-owned companies and their subsidiaries to cut costs. The PCB sent a circular to the companies on September 3.

The circular, which mentioned several measures, ordered companies to cut expenses on travel, employees as well as general costs.
