Baarashu MP and the Deputy Leader of the ruling party's parliamentary group Ibrahim Shujau has bought a land plot in Hulhumale' for MVR 9.4 million.

The Civil Court on Thursday ordered the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to sell the land and transfer ownership of the land to Shujau.

According to the court decision, Shujau bought Lot No. 20339 in Hulhumale'. The land covers an area of 2,197 square feet.

Shujau paid HDC a total of MVR 9,488,318.40 including GST for the purchase of the land.

Shujau was the Baarashu MP in the 18th Parliament and contested for the seat in the 19th Parliament.

But he was unsuccessful and remained at the forefront of the People's National Congress (PNC)'s opposition coalition for the past five years.

Shujau is also the Managing Director and a shareholder of Official Events, a renowned event management company in Maldives.

Last month, Health Minister Abdullah Khaleel also bought a flat in Hulhumale' for MVR 3 million.

In response to the news reports about the purchase, Khaleel said he bought the flat five years ago with a loan taken from the Bank of Maldives (BML).
