The ruling People's National Congress (PNC), which has a supermajority in Parliament, has postponed the party's internal elections.

The party first announced that it would hold the elections on October 19. But in an announcement on Friday night, PNC said the elections have been postponed to November 9.

The party claimed that the elections were postponed due to requests from members interested in contesting.

The deadline for submitting applications has also been extended until October 24, the announcement said.

The election was postponed amid a major campaign to increase the number of members of the PNC.

All those who submit their membership forms to the party office by 6:00 pm on October 24 will be able to vote in the election, the party said.
