The annual bonus of the Maldives Airports Company Pvt Ltd (MACL) has been delayed.

Some employees of the company told Adhadhu they did not know the exact date the bonus would be given this year.

An MACL official said that this year's bonus has been delayed and that the company's board has not decided on a specific date for the bonus.

Noting that there had been delays in giving the bonus in the past, the official said there are no plans to not give the bonus.

MACL has some of the highest pay rates among state-owned enterprises (SOE). Over the past three years, MACL has given each employee a bonus of MVR 25,000.

The company was also the only SOE to pay salaries in dollars until recently. The company was paying half of the salary in dollars before September 3.

However, the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) ordered not to pay salaries in dollars as part of measures to overcome the current financial crisis and dollar shortage.

According to PCB figures, MACL has a total of 4,264 employees.
