Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed’s son Abdulla Mahil Shaheem has been appointed to a senior position at the Maldives High Commission in Malaysia.

The Foreign Ministry did not officially announce the appointment. However, Adhadhu can confirm that Mahil was appointed as the Third Secretary of the High Commission of Maldives in Kuala Lumpur last June.

Mahil gets a remuneration of MVR 100,000 per month as salary and allowances. He lives in Malaysia with his wife and child.

According to Mahil's social media profiles, he graduated from International Islamic University Malaysia. However, he has not held any previous position in the foreign service.

The appointment of Minister Shaheem's son to a senior political post comes at a time when President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced to halt such appointments as a cost-cutting measure.

Minister Shaheem's wife Fatimath Afiya is a member of the Governing Board of the Male' City Group of Hospitals.
